Wetland Nature Reserve
With the world's focus firmly fixed on sustaining the environment, The Waterfront Barrow-in-Furness Masterplan seeks to build on a unique ecology that has developed as a direct result of a nearby power station.
Cavendish Dock has long been used as a reservoir for the adjacent Roosecote gas-fired power station, which has raised the water temperature within the dock and created a special habitat for many species, including wildfowl and mute swans.
It is planned to invest £2 million in creating warm water nature reserve of national standing around the dock and surrounding area. It will be Cumbria County Council who will invest and oversee the proposed landscaping work that will once again see part of the docklands returned to green space.
