West Cumbria, working in partnership with government, has the potential to deliver the critical elements of a national energy strategy that meets the imperatives of both combating climate change and securing the nation’s energy supply.
In doing so and building on its nuclear expertise, West Cumbria can become one of Britain’s fastest growing sub-regional economies, transforming the area and providing net growth to the UK economy. The Cumbria Partners of the West Cumbria Strategic Forum, led by Cumbria Vision and set up by the then DTI Secretary of State Patricia Hewitt, have been working intensively to prepare a plan to dramatically improve the economy of the area. This plan is called Britain’s Energy Coast™ - a Master Plan for West Cumbria.
The Master Plan provides a comprehensive platform for the regeneration of the area and gives the opportunity to transform Cumbria’s West Coast into Britain’s Energy Coast™ and a world class centre for excellence in energy and environmental technology. We will use the current nuclear skills as a springboard to a more diverse economy’ Richard Greenwood, Cumbria Vision.
