Cleator Moor
In Cleator Moor, West Lakes Renaissance is helping to build on the town’s sense of pride by helping to improve the physical environment.
Businesses have already been capitalising on a grant to improve shop fronts, while a new scheme has been launched to provide £200,000 worth building improvement grants, match funded by those businesses benefiting by a further £100,000.
Building grants have gone to Parkside Hotel; Phoenix Court and the former Cooperative building in Market Square have all helped raise the standard of the town centre. Work is currently being undertaken at a number of shops including Farrells; Wilson’s Butchers and Pets Pantry; and improvements are planned for Ainfield Cycles; Angling and Outdoor and Wath Brow.
There are also ambitious plans to draw visitors in by building on the town’s connections with major artists such as Lowrie and Conrad Atkinson, and to use the town’s position on the C2C cycle route to encourage cyclists to see it as the ideal base for cycling trails and events.
