Millom

In Millom there are plans to build on the industrial town’s history by creating a 21st century eco-tourism destination.

The town was once famous for its iron ore mines and iron works, which are now redundant. Plans are being discussed to maximise the potential of the Hodbarrow site and the iron works for eco-tourism

The proposals also cover the existing Site of Special Scientific Interest at Haverigg dunes.

West Lakes Renaissance has also worked to support the Millom Network Centre, which opened in 2007. The centre provides a range of facilities to support local enterprise and start up and existing businesses.

It also boasts a comprehensive Adult Education Programme; courses and qualifications for management training; a learning area for schools and a sixth form learning area and activities for other Schools’ programmes.
