North Allerdale
North Allerdale has a mixture of impressive townscapes, wonderful coastline and individual buildings.
The three market towns which make up North Allerdale have a long established history Wigton being the biggest of the towns and dating back to 1100AD.
The North Allerdale area was one of the centres of the foot and mouth outbreak which had a significant impact on the rural economy.
The Market Town Initiative (MTI) was one of the responses to that impact, working with the town councils, local business and regeneration groups through community based regeneration initiatives to address the social and economic activity of the towns.
One of the projects that West Lakes Renaissance is supporting is an Impact Survey for Wigton.
The Auction Mart Company are seeking to move their operation to the edge of the town and have been exploring development opportunities for their existing site.
West Lakes Renaissance have recognised that the proposed developments potentially bring with them significant threats but also opportunities to the economic vitality and character of the town and the surrounding areas.
