Maryport is something of a boom town. Any visitor cannot fail to notice the amount and variety of building activity that is taking place.
This is just the start of several years of regeneration activity that will improve the appearance of the town; create new employment opportunities; and diversify the town’s economy into high-quality tourism.
West Lakes Renaissance has committed £14.5 million together with project management expertise on a series of projects that will help build a brighter and more prosperous future for Maryport. These include the redevelopment of eyesore sites to create new employment opportunities; the installation of an iconic footbridge; improvements to the town’s picturesque harbour; and the construction of a brand new visitors centre.
These projects represent years of hard work behind the scenes by West Lakes Renaissance and our partners, including Maryport Town Council, Cumbria County Council, Allerdale Borough Council and Maryport Development Ltd.
Maryport qualifies for financial aid because of the economic and social difficulties the town has faced in recent years. Although there can be no question that Maryport has suffered economically and socially in recent years, there can also be no question that times are changing.
