BIP Factory/West Coast Karting Premises
The redevelopment and refurbishment of the former BIP button factory represents a fantastic opportunity to make significant visual improvements to an important gateway to Maryport while at the same time providing employment opportunities.
The factory closed in the mid 1990s. Part of the building was occupied by the West Coast Indoor Karting business, but the remainder fell into disrepair and was seen by local residents as an eyesore.
In November 2007 the vacant section of the factory was demolished. It is set to be replaced by high quality offices and workshops for businesses after work is carried out to clean up the site and create an access road.
The remainder of the factory owned by West Coast Indoor Karting business will receive significant improvements to its exterior to bring it back up to acceptable standards for Maryport’s main arterial road.
So far more than £1 million of funding has been channelled into this project, including contributions from West Lakes Renaissance, European Regional Development Fund, West Cumbria Development Fund, Cumbria County Council and Allerdale Borough Council.
