BIP Factory/West Coast Karting Premises
The redevelopment and refurbishment of the former BIP button factory will bring a significant boost to the local economy.
The factory, which is situated to Maryport’s southern arterial road, closed in the mid 1990s. While half of the building was occupied by the by the West Coast Indoor Karting business, the other half fell into disrepair and quickly became an eyesore.
West Lakes Renaissance and partners stepped in to first carry out significant visual improvements to the exterior of the West Coast Indoor Karting, and then demolish the remainder of the factory site ready for development.
The site is now set to become a high quality business centre, offering office space and workshops for a variety of businesses. The site has now been cleared and work is expected to start soon on a new access road.
So far more than £1 million of funding has been channelled into this project, including contributions from West Lakes Renaissance, European Regional Development Fund, West Cumbria Development Fund, Cumbria County Council and Allerdale Borough Council.
