Harrington Harbour
West Cumbria’s coastal location makes it an ideal place for residential, leisure and tourism developments.
Harrington Harbour has huge potential to be transformed into a high quality leisure marina and residential site. Work has started on a £500 million project to secure the future of the historic harbour, built in 1760 to export coal and limestone quarried from nearby pits.
West Lakes Renaissance has invested £364,000 and Allerdale Borough Council £108,000 to repair the harbour’s century old walls and erect new safety railings.
Work is expected to be completed by February 2008, paving the way for Allerdale Borough Council to seek companies interested in developing the harbour.
Options currently include the harbour’s transformation into a leisure marina and the building of harbourside homes, similar to those already built at nearby Maryport.
