Streetscapes
Workington town centre’s £50 million transformation into a modern and attractive retail hub has presented a need for standards to be raised in surrounding streets.
Working Streescapes is a £1.6 million package of improvements to public realm and retail areas in the town centre.
Not only is the scheme part of a wider push to establish Workington as a major shopping destination but also widen the town's retail catchments area; providing a catalyst for jobs and economic growth.
Activity will be centred on several streets, including Murray Road, Finkle Street, Pow Street and Washington Street, with designs currently being developed under the guidance of West Lakes Renaissance.
At the same time Cumbria County Council is consulting with stake holders regarding a refurbishment of streets within the nearby conservation area around Portland Square, Portland Street and Curwen Street.
