The work of West Lakes Renaissance in Furness revolves around the industrial town of Barrow-in-Furness.
Barrow-in-Furness is the second biggest urban centre in Cumbria and has grown into a commercial as well as an industrial centre since it exploded overnight during the Industrial Revolution.
Iron ore from the Furness Peninsula was transported to Barrow where it was processed at the largest steelworks in the world and then crafted into the finest ships in the world. Although the economic landscape of the town has changed over the decades, ship building remains an important part of the town, as does the strong manufacturing sector that has grown alongside it.
Today, West Lakes Renaissance is building on these successes and Barrow’s unique location that boasts sea views and a close proximity of The Lake District to raise the town’s profile as a place to live, learn, relax and work.
Our projects range from the huge regeneration scheme that will transform redundant dockland into a new sustainable community to a series of projects that allow people of all ages to learn new skills and to become involved in the town’s blossoming arts, culture and sports scenes.
